This project will provide my students with digital multimedia learning resources that will be engaging and will hopefully provide them useful information as they are synthesizing their learning within my course. The total video and assessment experience will be less than 18 minutes, and will be segmented multiple times throughout the video via assessment questions, to ensure that the content is easily consumable and understandable to the students. The goal of assessment will be to provide specific examples of the Beatles influence by and on other artists and events of the time period. The main learning objective will be for students to think about the career of the Beatles in the early 1960s and put it in context with key social and political events (President Kennedy’s assassination, the civil rights movement, women’s liberation, and anti-war movement) and in context with what other important artists were doing during the same time period. I am planning on using a combination of Garage Band, Final Cut Pro, and. I will create a short instructional podcast video on the early years and music of the Beatles and will include questions about the time period. The second instructional object for this project will combine video, text, and graphics with assessment. I will utilize to create the infographic and leverage, artist websites, and google maps as appropriate to ensure that the final resource is easy to use and interactive. This infographic will provide students with foundational facts about the topic and a tangible resource to utilize when physically exploring the spaces and thinking about the cultural space of the time in England and the United States. When applicable I will link to Google Maps of the actual location where an event took place. The learning objective for the infographic is to provide students with a resource that is chronological and provides locational, cross artist, and historical context for the documented events. The infographic will be an interactive timeline documenting the period 1957-1969 and it will provide details about the key events, locations, people, and songs from the three most impactful artists of the British Invasion era. The first instructional object that I will be creating will be an infographic focusing on the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton. The goal for the course is to study the music, history, and culture surrounding the British Invasion artists and how they influenced and inspired other musicians and impacted society and modern global culture. Students in the class are undergraduates from various programs at Ohio State’s Columbus campus and range in age from 18-23. Students learn about the music and impact of British Invasion era bands and artists from the 1960s, including the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton. The class meets on campus for the first two weeks and then travels to London and Liverpool for the final two weeks. The course runs as an intensive four-week summer semester study abroad experience. For this project, I will be creating multimedia instructional materials for a music course that I teach at The Ohio State University.
